Goodbye wet cloths: BORA is revolutionising the kitchen with the first ever self- cleaning sink

Since revolutionising the industry with the ‘downdraft cooktop extractor’ in 2007, the name BORA has been associated with innovative built-in kitchen appliances featuring premium quality and impressive design standards. Now, the BORA Sink is introducing a further unprecedented yet logical and useful function to kitchens: at the push of a button, water flows down all four sides of the basin at the same time to clean the sides and the base in a matter of seconds.

When the idea was initially conceived, the principle was clever and compelling – but tricky to implement in practice. Now, it looks incredibly simple when the water emerges from the rim of the sink, gushes evenly down all four sides of the basin and comes together, collecting up dirt, such as oats or breadcrumbs, as it goes. Cristadur, the patented quartz composite material used to make the sink, supports this unidirectionalwater flow in its self-cleaning work with a beautiful pearling effect. For even greater hygiene in the kitchen.

Putting engineering ingenuity into practice

One of the challenges for the developers was that instead of meeting in the middle of the basin, the water needed to run together by the drain filter near the back. To achieve this, a cleverly designed flow profile evenly distributes the water around the seamless, satin-matt surface structure.

The self-cleaning function is activated by pressing the button on the head of the tap, which has been specially developed for the BORA Sink. This is perfectly positioned so that users do not have to reach round the hot water coming out of the tap. The head also features a sensor with an LED that turns from blue to red to indicate the water temperature.

The differing water intervals are a further ingenious detail that arose from the practical tests. A short press of the button activates the self-cleaning function for the duration of the press. This enables brief bursts of water. A long press involves the touch sensor being continuously triggered for five seconds and automatically activates the rinsing function for a further 15 seconds.

Perfect for any kitchen: ingenious features in a timeless design

With its beautifully discreet black finish, the BORA Sink is resistant to water temperatures of up to 180 degrees and suitable for use with all conventional taps. To enable the installation of a functional tap, for example from Quooker, the sink is also available without the matt-black, powder-coated BORA Sink tap. In this case, the self- cleaning function is controlled using a touch sensor that can be freely positioned below the worktop.

Like all BORA products, the BORA Sink features a timelessly minimalist design. The overflow has been intentionally positioned on the opposite side to usual to enable a clean view of the jet-black finish. The premium- quality undermount sink is manufactured by SCHOCK in the Bavarian Forest and does not require any additional installation depth, enabling standard waste systems to be easily installed below it. BORA designed the tap in- house and commissioned a prestigious manufacturer for its production. Its understated design also combines perfectly with the BORA X BO, the professional steam oven for the home.

BORA is revolutionising the kitchen as a living space with yet another extraordinary product, fully in line with the company’s mission to offer users the best cooking experience. BORA’s clear belief that this not only involves the preparation of meals but also grocery shopping, food storage and preparation is reflected in the diverse range of both online and offline communications that the company uses to offer inspiration to a multitude of cooking enthusiasts.
