Two become three: expansion of the BORA Niederndorf site
Just like our product range, our BORA company sites are constantly growing. Since the beginning of September, the company campus in the Austrian town of Niederndorf has been home to a new office building, creating a space for just under 400 employees and, of course, built in the unmistakeable BORA style.
A new building in the style of BORA – amazing architecture in the Alpine landscape
Functionality, quality and aesthetics are not just key features of BORA products, but also of the firm’s outstanding architecture. Our headquarters in the Upper Bavarian town of Raubling, our new flagship store in the eastern Westphalian town of Herford and our Tyrolese company site in Niederndorf all bear a distinctive hallmark in terms of design.
The expansion project at the Niederndorf site was launched in 2021 under the premise of meeting the highest demands in terms of performance and aesthetics. The vision behind it was to provide work stations by creating an attractive new office building that harmoniously blends into the surrounding Alpine landscape.
In collaboration with the architect’s office Lorenz Ateliers, this vision was able to be brought to life within two years from the planning stage to its successful completion. The outer appearance of the new building is characterised by the vibrancy of the surrounding flat steel bars. In different colours and heights, they are rotated at different angles to create an extraordinary design feature which also plays an important role in terms of safety, as a balustrade.
A compact green company campus
To keep the land consumption down, protect green areas and optimise business processes, in this new building project we avoided expanding over a large area. Instead, the company site was compactly squeezed onto our existing land.
In accordance with our sustainability approach, the main roof of the new building – also referred to as AT III – is fully equipped with a solar panel system to generate renewable energy. A groundwater heat pump helps to heat and cool the building. The level of the land surrounding the building itself was lowered by two landscaped slopes and a grove of trees was maintained and added to along the adjacent street, meaning that AT III is nestled in park-like surroundings.
The new office building slots in between the two existing buildings – AT I and AT II – at the company site in Tyrol. AT III is connected to these buildings by up to 20-metre long skywalks, linking it with the R & D department in AT II and our “Hälzyba” in the neighbouring AT I. This not only guarantees our employees a delicious, healthy lunch just a short walk away, but also keeps things close for those moving around the company campus.
Sustainable growth – just under 400 work stations over 4500 m2
As an innovative, constantly growing company, BORA is continuously working on expanding its sites to provide plenty of room and an attractive, ergonomic workspace for its many new colleagues. Expanding the Niederndorf site with the new office building AT III aims to proactively and sustainably encourage company growth.
Over the new building’s total area of 7,600 m2, of which offices make up 4,500 m2, just under 400 work stations have been created over four floors – another great milestone in the BORA company history.
Since its completion in early September, AT III has been home to the marketing department, part of the IT department, and product management, among others. The customer support team will be moving in at the start of December, but will leave plenty of room for new talent.
